 at CES this year, and now we’re getting pricing info. The display will 
be available on March 28th for $999, according to a listing on <a href="https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1312886&gclid=CPjeqs-h3tICFcKEswodp2QEbQ&is=REG&ap=y&m=Y&c3api=1876%2C52934714882%2C&Q=&A=details">B&H</a>. <a href="https://www.adorama.com/lot32ud99w.html?gclid=CIjE8M-h3tICFYmLswodF9cBuw">Adorama</a> also lists the display at that price and says it’s “coming soon,” but doesn’t specifically cite March 28th. </div>

gamers. That’s bizarre given that LG seems to be marketing the monitor 
to gamers, who’ll likely want to know both details. But LG really thinks
 everyone will be into the fact that you can charge a laptop while you 
use the display because of the USB-C port, so at least there’s that.</div>

I’ve sat back and witnessed the development of Windows 10
 and appreciated the speed of new feature releases, but it seems there’s
 a price to pay for this new “Windows as a service” world. Microsoft has
 gradually been infesting Windows 10 with annoying ads. The first 
emerged on the lock screen as “tips,” and then there was the <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2015/5/14/8606925/candy-crush-saga-windows-10">bundling of <em>Candy Crush</em></a> with the OS, and now Microsoft has started blasting notifications into the task bar and File Explorer. </div>

Windows 10 users have been complaining vocally in recent weeks about <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2017/3/9/14872464/windows-10-onedrive-ads-inside-file-explorer">OneDrive notifications in the File Explorer</a>,
 encouraging them to pay $6.99 for an Office 365 subscription. The task 
bar notifications that prompt people to switch to Edge when they use 
Chrome, or install Microsoft’s Personal Shopping Assistant for Chrome, 
have been appearing for months. Microsoft even decided to use 
notifications to warn Chrome users
 about battery drain. These types of notifications not only spoil the 
experience of using Windows 10’s built-in features, but they’re an 
annoying distraction.</div>

Now Microsoft is planning to preload another app in Windows 10: Sling TV. While only US Windows 10 users <a href="http://blog.sling.com/announcements/sling-tv-releases-new-interface-on-xbox-one-partners-with-microsoft-for-pre-load/">will get Sling TV preloaded</a> without the necessary subscription, it will sit alongside <em>Candy Crush</em>
 and Solitaire as other examples of what will soon be described as 
bloatware. Thankfully, it’s easy to uninstall these unnecessary apps, 
but that doesn’t mean Microsoft won’t add more to the mix in the future.
 Microsoft used to blame its OEM partners for bundling lots of useless 
apps on Windows PCs, but now it has itself to blame for doing the same 
to Windows 10.</div>

Some might argue that Microsoft is well 
within its rights as most people got Windows 10 free of charge. That’s a
 valid argument for some, but most Windows users will have paid for a 
license for the OS through the purchase of a laptop or desktop PC. 
Placing notifications in the File Explorer and task bar — parts of the 
operating system that no other developers are allowed to touch — just 
feels really unnecessary and an abuse of power. </div>

Microsoft added a notification center to Windows 10 for a
 reason. If it feels the need to blast its loyal users with irritating 
prompts then these should be channeled into that notification center, 
not wedged into the File Explorer or on top of the task bar. You 
shouldn't have to dig deep into a <a href="https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/106424/windows-10-tip-turn-off-file-explorer-advertising">settings panel to disable these</a>; they shouldn't be there in your File Explorer in the first place. Microsoft already had to walk back its <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2016/6/28/12049876/microsoft-windows-10-upgrade-notification-change">aggressive Windows 10 upgrade prompts</a> last year, so hopefully the company will come to its senses and rethink these annoying ads and bloatware in Windows 10.</div>

Google Drive is growing up a little bit today. At its 
enterprise-focused Cloud Next conference, Google is announcing a set of 
changes that will make the product more palatable for businesses — and 
potentially more interesting for regular consumers as well.</div>

Drives,” which amounts to a shared cloud folder that employees can put 
their files into. That’s something you can do now, but the permission

Team Drives ensures everybody with access to the folder is essentially a
 “co-owner” of the files. </div>

 is making its “Vault” feature more widely available, which makes it 
easier for administrators to manage and export Google Drive data. It has

Google will offer those consulting services directly.</div>

 the main business-focused feature. For consumers, the most interesting 
new feature is something Google calls “Drive File Stream.” Essentially, 
it’s designed to make it easier for you to choose to install Google

 Windows Server operating system onto ARM-powered designs by Qualcomm 
and Cavium, which were unveiled at Open Compute. The company won’t say 
how widely it plans on deploying ARM’s chips, and notes that these 
systems haven’t been integrated into consumer-facing services. 
Nevertheless, its intentions are clear. </div>

even bring something to a conference if we didn't think this was a 
committed project and something that's part of our road map,” Zander 
told <em>Bloomberg</em>. “It's not deployed into production yet, but that is the next logical step.”</div>

These ARM design are part of Microsoft’s next generation 
of server hardware, intended to cut operational costs. New hardware is 
being developed with a number of companies under the name Project 
Olympus. Other designs include systems running on AMD’s Naples 
processor, and on a variant of Intel’s own Skylake chips. <em>Bloomberg</em>
 reports that some of this new hardware will make its way into 
Microsoft’s data centers “later this year.” However, it’s not clear if 
this refers to the designs using ARM processors.</div>

This is a seismic change in the chip industry, but not an
 unexpected one. Microsoft has been slowly pivoting away from Intel’s 
products for years, and the switch will affect consumers, too. Last 
December, for example, Microsoft announced that a new generation of 
Windows 10 machines running on ARM chips
 were in the pipeline. The change in underlying hardware could mean 
devices that are more energy-efficient, and that offer cellular 
connectivity for less.</div>

servers. A little more diversity in the market won’t mean Intel isn’t 
still a force to be reckoned with. </div>

Microsoft today announced a new initiative to let any game developer 
create and sell games on its Xbox platform without having to go through 
any of the company’s preexisting channels. The <a href="https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/games/xbox/xboxlive/creator">Xbox Live Creators Program</a>, as it’s called, is designed to let an indie team or solo developer take a retail Xbox, which doubles as a dev kit,
 and use it to create and self-publish the title to the Xbox 
marketplace. Prior to today, developers had to part of an established 
game development or media company, or they had to apply through 
Microsoft’s ID@Xbox indie game program to receive self-publishing 
capabilities.<br />

That are a couple of stipulations involved with the new 
program, which remains in a preview stage for now until it opens up to 
the general public soon. For one, the game you’re making must be a 
Universal Windows App, so that it can run on any Windows 10 device and 
not simply the Xbox One. Microsoft also reserves the right to remove 
your game from the store if it has “harmful or inappropriate content,” 
as the company won’t be binding any devs with nondisclosure agreements 
or concept approvals. </div>

The program isn’t free. There’s a one-time fee to that 
ranges from $20 to $100, and it’s unclear right now how Microsoft plans 
on charging some developers more or less than others. Even then, unless a
 developer joins the ID@Xbox program, they won’t be able to enable 
online multiplayer for the Xbox version of the game or access the Xbox 
achievements feature. The Creators Program does let you still access 
Xbox’s leaderboards and party chat features. In one potential downside, 
games listed through the program will be kept in a separate section of 
the Xbox Store, which could limit their exposure to reach as wide an 
audience as ID@Xbox titles. </div>

Microsoft is unveiling some changes to the way Windows 
Updates are applied to Windows 10 PCs with the upcoming Creators Update.
 The software giant has long been criticized by Windows 10 users for its
 aggressive approach to applying updates, and it’s introducing some new 
options to prevent annoying reboots. “What we heard back most explicitly
 was that you want more control over when Windows 10 installs updates,” 
admits John Cable, Microsoft’s Windows director of program management. 
“We also heard that unexpected reboots are disruptive if they happen at 
the wrong time.”</div>

To stop these random reboots, Microsoft is adding a new 
snooze option that appears in a new prompt to let you know there’s a 
Windows 10 update available. Snooze will stop an update installing for 
three days, and give you time to save any crucial work. Alongside 
snooze, you can also pick a time to schedule a restart for a more 
convenient time. Microsoft has been testing these changes with Windows 
Insiders, and says the feedback has been positive.</div>

Alongside the Windows Update changes, Microsoft is also 
making some privacy tweaks to Windows 10 with the Creators Update. While
 EU regulators revealed last month
 that they’re still concerned over Windows 10 privacy settings, 
Microsoft is pushing ahead with some changes to simplify privacy 
settings. A new privacy panel is being introduced that will let Windows 
10 users quickly disable features like location, speech recognition, 
relevant ads, and telemetry data.</div>

easier to understand, but EU regulators still want Microsoft to explain 
what types of personal data are processed when using Windows 10

appears to be set as allowing apps from anywhere to install by default. 
It could be a useful feature to enable on a family PC to prevent rogue 
desktop apps from being installed.</div>

It’s a similar security feature to what Apple introduced 
with macOS to prevent unsigned and non-store apps from being installed. 
Microsoft’s approach appears to be opt-in during the test phases of this

 Sweeney, Epic Games co-founder. Sweeney has attacked Microsoft on several occasions for its Windows Store approach to gaming, and described the latest changes as “anti-competitive” and “anti-user” <a href="https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/835818443953831936">in a Twitter rant</a>.</div>

Microsoft is also currently testing a new “Windows 10 Cloud”

Conference in San Francisco, means that Microsoft is moving fast to try 
and expand its augmented and virtual reality ambitions beyond the 
HoloLens headset. The company first announced that it would be 
partnering with device manufacturers for Windows Holographic products back in October. </div>

Mixed reality is essentially a blending of AR and VR that
 can let you both bring real-world objects into a virtual space and 
render virtual objects in a real-world environment. It relies on cameras
 attached to an otherwise standard-looking VR headset so both your head 
and body motions can be tracked alongside objects around you, like a 
table or wall or something you’re holding in your hand. Intel is working on something similar with its Project Alloy headset (though the company likes to use the phrase “merged” instead of mixed reality).<br />

Similar to a Windows Holographic headset shown by Lenovo back at CES,
 this Acer model contains two cameras on the front and inside-out, six 
degrees-of-freedom tracking. That means no external sensors or cameras 
are technically required for the device to do depth mapping, object 
recognition, or motion sensing. You may still need motion controllers 
for advanced hand tracking. Those peripherals should be in the pipeline 
from third-party manufacturers once Microsoft finalizes its Windows 
Holographic controller specifications. </div>

The device achieves a display resolution of 1440 x 1440 
through two high-resolution LCD panels, which gives it a higher 
resolution than current consumer VR headsets from Oculus and HTC. But we
 have yet to try one of these mixed reality headsets beyond the 
HoloLens, so it’s unclear if the image quality is compromised by some 
other component or by the types of images it may be designed to render.</div>

Sony's Aim Controller was originally supposed to launch around the holidays alongside <em>Farpoint</em>, a showcase FPS title. Well, now it's March and there's still no Aim Controller or <em>Farpoint</em> on shelves. At GDC this week, Impulse Gear, the developer of <em>Farpoint</em>, <a href="http://www.roadtovr.com/psvr-aim-controller-launches-farpoint-may-16th-co-op-confirmed/">confirmed to <em>Road to VR</em></a> that the game and controller will launch as a bundle on May 16th. Right now you can <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/games/farpoint-vr-with-aim-controller-bundle/136013">preorder the bundle at GameStop</a>, which shows an end of June release date, but hopefully Impulse Gear has better info.</div>

The controller itself is slick, minimal, and an ideal 
configuration for converting a standard dual-stick shooter into a VR 
game, with an analog stick for movement and a built-in color ball for 
1:1 aiming. Unfortunately, unlike the HTC Vive or a three-sensor Oculus 
Rift setup, there's no way right now for PlayStation VR to track a 
controller when you're turned away from the camera and are blocking that
 bright colorful tracking ball with your body, and <em>Farpoint</em> is 
designed with that limitation in mind. The game feels a bit like a 
compromise between a truly free-roaming FPS and a locked-in rail 
shooter.</div>

Motorola today announced the new Moto G5 and G5 Plus, but it also had 
some news for Moto Z owners. Motorola also committed to bringing 12 new 
Moto Mods every year as a part of its efforts to support the Moto Z and 
the Moto Z Play.<br />

Motorola, in an effort to keep on its words has unveiled new Moto 
Mods compatible with the Moto Z and the Moto Z Play. This Moto Mods 
include a Gamepad, Charging Adapter, Wireless charging Mod along with a 
Turbo charging Mod.<br />

Samsung may not have unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S8 at the Mobile World 
Congress, but Samsung has managed to release another stylish piece of 
hardware. Samsung released two new hybrids and named them the ‘<strong>Galaxy Book</strong>‘.
 Samsung is really trying to compete with the Microsoft Surface Line and
 the Galaxy Book indeed has quite a few unique features up its sleeve.<br />
<br />
There are 10 and 12 inch variants of the Surface Book and both of 
them are compatible with the new S-Pen that Samsung announced for its 
Tab S3 and the Surface books.<br />

Samsung
 has always produced top-notch displays and the Galaxy Book is no 
exception. The 12-inch model sports a 2160×1440 AMOLED panel which looks
 absolutely gorgeous. The display also has HDR support which gives a 
wider colour gamut which makes images and videos look more vibrant and 
richer. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 came out with a HDR display last year 
and it made a night and day difference while watching content that 
support HDR. Netflix and Amazon Prime video provide content with HDR 
support enabled. Unfortunately, the 10-inch version of the Galaxy Book 
comes with a full HD LCD panel, which does not support HDR.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Specifications:</strong></span><br />
<br />
This is one area where Samsung has done a very good job. Samsung has 
made a product that maintains the portability aspect without sacrificing
 performance. Despite the 7.4mm slender profile, the 12-inch variant 
sports an Intel Kaby Lake Core i5 processor, 4GB or 8GB of RAM and a 
128GB or 256GB SSD. This configuration seems pretty promising 
performance wise for a hybrid device with such a thin profile. However, 
the 10-inch variant is powered by a Core M processor, which is still 
acceptable for a laptop convertible.<br />
          The Galaxy Books sport a 30 
and a 39 watt-hour-battery for the 10 and 12-inch variants respectively 
which is not bad considering that these are portable devices. Samsung 
claims to deliver 10 hours of battery life on a single charge and the 
inclusion of fast charging makes it really impressive.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Software and Features:</strong></span><br />
The
 Galaxy Book runs on Windows 10 with a few extra features. The Galaxy 
Book supports the new S-Pen, which can detect up to 4096 levels of 
pressure with its fine 0.7mm nib. The S-Pen can now understand the angle
 at which it is being tilted and Samsung is really proud of this 
feature. It believes that this feature can be really handy for artists 
and designers. Samsung has included familiar S-Pen features like Air 
Command shortcut and Screen off Memo.<br />
Samsung has added a new 
feature and has named it ‘Flow’. This enables you get smartphone 
notifications on your laptop screen. Flow also allows for easy transfer 
of files between Samsung devices.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Verdict:</strong></span><br />
The
 12-inch variant clearly looks more of a worthy buy considering that it 
has a better display, a slimmer profile and a much better processor. 
Samsung has also added a few handy S-Pen features which make the devices
 more useful. However, all would depend on how Samsung optimises these 
features. Sammy has not announced details regarding the pricing although
 it is expected to be priced similar to the Surface Book.

Valve is the co-producer of the Vive VR device with HTC. Recently, it
 has announced the Steam Audio. Through this software, VR content 
developers can enhance user experience by simulating sound effects in 
the most realistic way. The kit allows developers to generate binaural 
audio, which actually simulates how the body feels the sounds. However, 
it also allow the simulation of physical interaction between the sounds 
and the environment.<br />
<br />
For instance, if you are standing in a corner
 of a room (in the VR world of course), you will be able to feel the 
sounds ricocheting off the walls. Normally, these types of sound effects
 will be pre-recorded, making it sound unnatural in many instances. 
However, the Steam Audio kit allows physical calculations to simulate 
sounds in real-time and in the most accurate way possible. You can see 
the video below for how the software works.<br />
<br />
Valve is now offering the Steam Audio software free of charge. It is 
now compatible to games developed with engine Unity (like Mobius Final 
Fantasy, Pillar of Eternity, I Am Setsuna, etc.). The version compatible
 with engine Unreal 4 games (like Gears of War, Batman, Streetfighter, 
etc.) will be released in the near future. Something to note though, 
that the decision to use Steam Audio to enhance the sounds of VR games 
lies solely on the developers. Valve is just offering a solution.<br />

Qualcomm is launching an accelerator program for VR 
headset manufacturers, releasing a new headset reference design, and 
partnering with hand tracking company Leap Motion. The company is 
looking to kickstart production of headsets with features not found in 
the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, including an all-in-one wireless design 
that removes the need for wires or external tracking devices. This 
continues a mission it first announced last year, but with updated 
hardware and a goal of making it easier to build off Qualcomm’s work.</div>

The <a href="https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2017/02/23/qualcomm-introduces-snapdragon-835-virtual-reality-development-kit">virtual reality development kit</a>,

 Snapdragon 835 chip. It has a 2560 x 1440 screen (equivalent to the 
Gear VR), 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of flash memory. There are also cameras 
both inside and outside the headset. On the inside, they enable eye 
tracking, a sometimes-gimmicky feature that can also make it easier to push
 high-quality graphics inside a headset. On the outside, they allow for 
inside-out (or “six degree of freedom”) tracking, which means people can
 experience moving around in VR without needing a specially assembled 
“VR room.” <a href="https://www.leapmotion.com/news/leap-motion-qualcomm-mobile-vr">The deal</a>
 with Leap Motion, probably the most advanced independent hand tracking 
company, also puts an exciting new interface on the table.</div>

Qualcomm isn’t planning on selling this reference design 
to consumers; instead, manufacturers are supposed to create their own 
products based on it. Qualcomm was already touting partnerships when it 
released its first version of the headset. The <a href="https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2017/02/23/qualcomm-announces-head-mounted-display-accelerator-program-vr-hardware">accelerator program</a>,
 though, is meant to streamline the process. It creates a standard for 
hardware, including a set of pre-approved components. The accelerator 
program is open today, while the headset will start shipping in the 
second quarter of 2017 for an unannounced price.</div>

idea is exciting, we were underwhelmed with the results, particularly

Robots Now Ready To Walk Among Humans

Earlier this month, a company named Agility Robotics unveiled its first ever robot: a bipedal creation named Cassie
 that looks like a headless, wingless ostrich. Cassie has reverse knees,
 motor-powered ankles, and can walk over different sorts of terrain at a
 decent clip. It can even survive a kick to the abdomen (the fastest way
 to test a robot’s self-balancing capabilities, though not the kindest).
 But are bipedal robots like Cassie really the future? Why not use 
wheels, tracks, or just more<em> </em>legs? Why make life <em>difficult</em>?</div>

     Well, according to Agility Robotics CEO Damion Shelton, 
there are good reasons for using bipedal bots, but it’s taken a while 
for the technology to catch up. He says the biggest advantage is that 
legged bots operate seamlessly in locations made for people.</div>

“If you consider humans from a design standpoint, what we
 were designed for is being extremely agile in an extremely cluttered 
environment,” Shelton tells <em>The Verge</em>. He says when it comes to
 “legacy buildings” — i.e., those with stair-only access, or difficult 
steps or ledges — legged bots are going to be much more capable than 
those with wheels. “Or, if you want to be at ground level for the task 
you’re doing — like package delivery or on-site inspection.” </div>

     Shelton offers the example of 3D-scanning a rail yard. 
You could map a yard with a drone, but it would have to hover around, 
navigating in and out of buildings, and might require supervision. A 
wheeled or tracked robot would also have problems climbing stairs or 
making its way over uneven terrain. But a robot with legs would be as 
mobile as a human. Other use cases in a similar vein include scouting 
for the military and disaster response scenarios, like exploring a 
failed nuclear reactor or the epicenter of an earthquake.</div>

“We’re not saying it’s the right solution for 
everything,” says Shelton. “In particular highly engineered 
environments, like inside modern factories where you need heavy lift 
capacity. Yeah, use wheels for that!” </div>

Though Agility Robotics is confident in the possibilities
 of bipedalism, the approach has unique challenges. When replicating 
human movement, engineers turn to the human musculoskeletal system as a 
model, swapping organic muscles for mechanical equivalents. At this 
point, says Shelton, we don’t have motors as strong or efficient as 
human muscles, and that makes the resulting robots slow, clunky, or 
reliant on external energy sources. </div>

Take Boston Dynamics’ Atlas, for example. It’s not just 
bipedal, but humanoid, with arms as well as legs, all powered by 
hydraulics. Using hydraulics allows for precision and strength, but they

    Agility Robotics approach is to use an “under-actuated” 
design, meaning it has fewer motors than you’d need for full, 
like-for-like emulation. Instead, Cassie uses spring elements that mimic

“A good analogy is car suspension, where the mechanical 
design of the system determines a lot of behavior,” says Shelton. 
“Cassie will do a certain set of things mechanically without being told 
to by a computer. By having some springs in the system, we don’t have to
 handle impacts with the ground, for example.” </div>

Sangbae Kim, who creates bio-inspired robots at MIT like this Cheetah bot,
 says that stability is still a big problem for bipedal bots. The likes 
of Cassie and Atlas might be able to survive the odd kick or poke, but

more legs. </div>

   “Being quadrupedal is about having redundancies,” he tells <em>The Verge</em>.
 “Imagine you’re climbing and hiking in the mountain; in the most 
challenging situations you will use your hands. You won’t stay bipedal.”
 Kim says that humans probably became bipedal in order to free up their 
hands for using tools (it’s one of a number of explanations), and that 
four legs are just better suited for stability. “I strongly believe that
 quadrupeds have higher advantages when it comes to just mobility,” he 
says. “From leopards to mountain goats, quadrupeds can reach every 
corner of the land.”</div>

Antoine Cully, a roboticist at Imperial College London, 
agrees that recent advances are making bipedal bots more viable, but 
says cost and robustness will continue to be a constraint in the near 
future. “They are very complex machines and this complexity increases 
their cost and their propensity to become damaged,” he says over email. 
“For these reasons, I think that the first commercial applications will 
be limited to domains that can support and afford these additional 
costs.” </div>

        Cassie is Agility Robotics’ first major prototype. The 
next iteration of Cassie will focus on bringing down the cost by 
increasing volume, with the firm aiming for a price tag “well under

Currently, Cassie can reach speeds of around three meters
 a second and operate for 10 hours, shifting between walking and 
standing. The brains controlling the bot are dedicated to immediate 
movements rather than ranged navigation, but Shelton is confident those 
sorts of control functions can come later. </div>

“I actually think we’re on the curve of something similar
 to self-driving cars,” says Shelton. “We’re probably not closer than 
four or five years to having bipedal robots go fully mainstream, but 
certainly not more than seven or eight.” </div>

I love the convenience and gestures my laptop touchpad provides, but 
when I'm really doing work I prefer an external mouse and an external 
keyboard. Logitech's G900 is a mouse. It's a really expensive mouse 
($149 list price), with more features than anyone was really asking for,
 and I was convinced it was overkill before I realized I hate using

The G900 has the requisite left and right click, two 
extra buttons on each side, a scroll wheel, and a pair of buttons behind
 the wheel to switch sensitivity on the fly. It's wireless, there's an 
optical sensor, and it lights up in pretty colors.</div>

Logitech's big selling point for this mouse is its ultra 
low latency wireless (and wired) performance. According to Logitech's 
own tests, the mouse outperforms many wired mice on latency (that's the 
time between you moving the mouse and the motion registering on the 
computer) thanks to Logitech's fine-tuning of the wireless 
communication.</div>

What actually attracted me to the mouse was that it's a 
high-end mouse that's symmetrical. I'm left-handed, and for years I've 
gripped right-handed mice at odd angles with my left hand for work and 
then switched to right-handed mousing for video games. The G900 was for 
me an opportunity to switch to a full left-handed lifestyle. I even 
remapped the left and right buttons, which is now saved to a profile in 
the mouse's onboard memory and annoys anyone who attempts to use my 
computer.</div>

In every way this is a good mouse. It performs 
excellently when wired or wireless, and tracks perfectly on nearly any 
surface — I've had zero mousing problems, which sounds like the bare 
minimum but it's not guaranteed with mice in the sub-$50 range. I'm 
merely human, so the advertised 1ms response time and the 12,000 max 
tracking DPI are clearly overkill, but it is nice to know when I'm on an
 <em>Overwatch</em> losing streak that I can't blame my gear.</div>

But it's all the little things that make me think I can't
 live without this mouse. For instance, the scroll wheel has two modes: a
 locked mode where you feel each notch as you scroll (good for switching
 between discrete values like which gun you're holding), and an unlocked
 mode where the wheel spins freely (good for scrolling down webpages). 
That means a mouse that I got for gaming turned out to be perfect for 
work, which makes my life simpler.</div>

Also, and I don’t know how to explain this in a paragraph, but the clicking is <em>really good. </em>Not too hard, not too soft, and just the right travel distance. How do you make a good clicker? Make it like this.</div>

Like all mouse setup software, I hate using Logitech's. 
Thankfully, because you can store settings in the mouse's onboard 
memory, I set it up on one computer and never had to install that 
garbage again. I can toggle between various DPIs (I use a lower 
sensitivity for gaming than I do for non-gaming) with the onboard 
buttons and that's all I need.</div>

Probably. My switch to full left-handed mouse usage was 
enabled and inspired by this mouse, and while it's certainly 
inconvenient to remap the keyboard for every game I play, it's been 
mostly a positive change. I aim better, I play better, and I get to use 
my dominant hand to operate a computer which is nice because I spend 
most of my waking life on one.</div>

On an embarrassing note, I lost the wireless dongle 
somewhere in my apartment. The mouse has a nice setup where you can use 
the mouse plugged in while it charges, and then plug the dongle into 
that cable when you're ready to go wireless again. I enjoyed that 
capability. But, like 97 percent of RF dongles I've owned in my life, I 
lost this one. So now I have an extremely overpriced wired mouse.</div>

Some of the biggest drawbacks of a wireless mouse are 
reliability, battery life, and latency. The G900 is great on all those 
fronts. The other big drawback, though, is weight. Because the mouse has
 a battery in it, it'll always be a good amount heavier than an 
equivalent wired mouse. Mouse weight is a matter of taste, so you might 
have to test out a wireless mouse a bit to see if it bothers you. For 
reference, the G900 (which has a built-in battery) weighs about as much 
as Apple's Magic Mouse with the AA batteries inserted.</div>

And then there's price. I feel like over $100 is more 
than I should spend on a mouse. But I spent it! I started out testing a 
review unit from Logitech, but ended up buying my own. I guess the fact 
that this is ambidextrous and works for all my daily mouse use-cases 
makes it "worth it" for me, but if your taste or needs differ at all 
from mine you can probably find a cheaper mouse that will serve you just
 as well.</div>

 a chip that it says can compete with Intel's chips at long last. AMD's 
last generation of desktop chips was disappointing, and has been largely
 relegated to low-end computers. But Ryzen manages <a href="http://www.anandtech.com/show/11143/amd-launch-ryzen-52-more-ipc-eight-cores-for-under-330-preorder-today-on-sale-march-2nd">a 52 percent boost</a> in instructions per cycle (IPC) over last time, which puts it on a level playing field with the best Intel has to offer.</div>

The Ryzen family will come in multiple flavors, but the 
high-end Ryzen 7 is shipping first. The chip has eight cores and 16 
threads, and starts at $329. At the top end is the 3.6GHz (4.0GHz 
turbo), $499 Ryzen 7 1800X, which compares well with Intel's $1,050 
i7-6900K. According to AMD's benchmarks, the 1800X ties the 6900K on 
singlethreaded benchmarks, and beats Intel on multithreaded performance.</div>

AMD uses a few hundred more megahertz to get there, which
 means AMD isn't doing quite as much as Intel Broadwell per hertz. But 
it's the end result that matters, and AMD is claiming to match or beat 
Intel across the spectrum with better prices — the dream scenario,

The new processors are <a href="http://www.amd.com/en-us/press-releases/Pages/ryzen-7-2017feb22.aspx">available for preorder now</a>,
 and will ship on March 2nd. AMD is promising to have plenty of 
inventory and a ton of motherboard options at launch. It's a lot of 
promises, AMD! Hopefully Ryzen can deliver, and we can get a real fight 
in the desktop market, which will be wonderful for anybody not named 
"Intel."</div>
