Telltale announced that it was making a Guardians of the Galaxy
game last year at the 2016 Game Awards, and today we’re finally getting
our first look at what that will actually look like. Unfortunately,
that comes in the form of some screenshots of the game, not an actual
trailer, but we’ll take what we can get for now.
As expected, Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series will
feature the five main members of the Guardians from Marvel’s first
movie, Star-Lord (voiced by Scott Porter here), Gamora (Emily O’Brien),
Rocket Raccoon (Nolan North), Drax the Destroyer (Brandon Paul Eells),
and Groot (Adam Harrington).
Like Telltale’s earlier adaptations of Batman and The Walking Dead, expect Guardians of the Galaxy to
be an interactive narrative with player choices dramatically effecting
how the game plays out. Although given the franchise’s history, there
will probably be a whole lot more snarky humor and ‘80s music than The Walking Dead.
Along with images of the upcoming game, Telltale released
an official synopsis that gives us our first good idea of what to
expect from the game.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is a brand new story of the universe's unlikeliest heroes: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of them has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands. From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, you wear the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, where your decisions and actions drive the story you experience.
Telltale will be announcing more details on Guardians of the Galaxy at a panel at PAX East tomorrow, and will show off an early version of the first episode of the title at SXSW next week.
As expected, Guardians of the Galaxy will
continue Telltale’s trend of breaking up the story into five episodes,
the first of which is planned for release in the spring — just in time
for the upcoming release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 movie.
