Xiaomi launched the Redmi 4A, with a price tag of ₹5,999. Currently the smartphone is exclusive to Amazon India and Mi.com and would go on sale from 1200 Hours IST, on 23rd March. Currently though, you only get the Dark Grey and Gold colour variants with a Rose Gold variant will be available from April 6th on Mi India’s site.

The device was originally supposed to launch in November of last year alongside the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime completing the line-up while being the cheapest. Being a budget oriented device the Redmi 4A has a plastic chassis, it features a hybrid dual-SIM slot microSD slot. Packing a 5-inch HD (720 x 1280) resolution IPS display. Hardware wise it is sporting a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC coupled with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage with the expansion option while sacrificing one of the SIM spaces.

The device comes in with a 13-megapixel, f/2.2 rear camera supporting phase detection auto-focus and an LED flash. The selfie camera up front is a 5-megapixel, f/2.2 shooter. To round of the hardware and software side of things, the device is running on MIUI 8.0 which is based on Android, v6.x, Marshmallow and is powered by a humongous (for its class) 3120mAh battery pack with support for fast charging.

Although certainly not an underperformer for its class, the main draw of the Redmi 4A is its support for 4G VoLTE out of the box which should place it ahead of its pack and should increase its appeal to users who want a cheap, reliable device rocking great hardware for a relatively modest budget.

The launch event by Xiaomi ended with Xiaomi claiming itself to be the largest smartphone brand in India with a 30% market share. It also stated that they have started their second manufacturing plant in India, in Sricity which is operated by Foxconn.
