We use our phones for virtually everything, so allowing it to create customized dresses (Or Shirts for men) isn’t asking for too much, is it?
If Google had its way, your phone may soon help with that. It starts with an app called Coded Couture (Not available for public appreciation, yet) that utilizes Google’s Awareness API to store data about your lifestyle and then turns that information into patterns for clothing, in this instance, a Data Dress.
So how does it work?
You would have to select what occasion you need the dress for (Like an Owambe or a birthday party) and the style you are hoping to achieve. Thereon, the app tracks things like your workout habit, places you visit and your overall routine. It then uses the data gleaned to pick out accessories and craft a unique pattern. The resulting dress will have a starting price tag of $99 created by H&M.
To make you understand this better, here is an example: The app designed a dress made out of black velvet because the wearer (Ivyrevel co-founder Kenza Zouiten) was in Stockholm, Sweden, where it was -2 degrees, and it added diamond details because she was often dancing. Among those diamond details, it included the GPS route of an early morning run, along with other map-style routes to restaurants and meeting spots.
On the flip side, the app will require access to your phone’s bevy of sensors, and for some of us, that might be a serious privacy bridge.
I don’t know if this sounds exciting to you, but I am pretty stoked about the whole idea
