Huawei has launched the Huawei Watch 2 and the Huawei Watch 2 Classic smartwatches alongside the Huawei P10 and the P10 Plus. The original Huawei watch was launched two years ago and Huawei did not not update its Huawei watch last year due to the unavailability of a new Android Wear OS. The Huawei watch 2 starts at EUR 329(Rs.23,200) and will be available beginning March.
The original Huawei watch was a very good smart watch and the second generation looks to improvise on it’s success. The main features of the Huawei Watch 2 include cellular connectivity(there is a nano-sim slot), and Android Pay since it has NFC built in. The smartwatches also contain GPS and heart rate sensors. The watch runs on Android Wear 2.0 and also includes a ‘low power mode’ which only shows the time and records steps but promises upto 25 days of battery life.
The Huawei Watch 2 sports a plastic build while the Huawei Watch 2 Classic sports a metal chassis. Both the watches sport a 1.2-inch circular display much like its predecessor, but it is noticeably bulkier. The Huawei watches pack a pretty large 420 mAh battery which is claimed to last for 2 days.
There are two physical buttons found on the watches along with a microphone and a speaker. Huawei Watch 2 is now iP68 water and dust resistant and the Huawei Watch 2 Classic features a ‘Hybrid Strap” that has leather top but a rubber interior, which makes it sweat-proof. Also, the straps can easily be disconnected and interchanged.
Huawei also wants to make this an effective fitness tracking device as well and hence it has integrated it’s ‘Fit Program’, which offers personalised training according to your goals and work out habits.
As for availability, both the smartwatches will first be available in Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Germany, and China starting this March. Secondly, they will launch in the US, UK, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Ireland, The Nordics, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, India, South Africa, Poland, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and UAE in April. Finally, the smartwatches will launch in Malaysia starting in May.
Overall, The Huawei Watch 2 feels like a pretty big update to its predecessor and really looks like a good alternative for someone who is looking for a smartwatch running Android Wear 2.0.
